Privacy Policy
Effective date: April 26, 2026
FreezeAlert ("the app", "we", "our") is built to respect your privacy. This policy explains what data the app uses, where it goes, and what we do (or don't do) with it.
Information We Collect
FreezeAlert does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information to our servers. All data stays on your device.
The app uses or accesses the following data locally:
- Location (when-in-use only). If you enable "Current Location" alerts, your GPS coordinates are used to fetch a local weather forecast. Location is never stored persistently and is never transmitted to us.
- Saved addresses. Addresses and place names you enter are stored locally on your device using iOS/macOS system storage (UserDefaults). They are never sent to our servers.
- App preferences. Your temperature threshold, lead time, and other settings are stored locally on your device.
Third-Party Services
FreezeAlert sends location coordinates to third-party weather services to retrieve forecast data:
- Apple WeatherKit. Your coordinates are sent to Apple's WeatherKit API to retrieve current conditions and hourly forecasts. Apple's use of this data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Open-Meteo. When elevation correction is enabled, coordinates are sent to Open-Meteo's weather API for elevation-adjusted forecast data. Open-Meteo's use of this data is governed by the Open-Meteo terms. Open-Meteo does not require an account and does not track users.
No advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or crash-reporting tools are included in the app.
